Neve ParitzkiJerusalem's first cycling tunnel opened in Israel

The Kerem Tunnel allows for a unique hiking and riding experience.
The Kerem Tunnel, Israel's newest cycle tunnel, was inaugurated as part of an extensive cycle path that circles the capital.

The tunnel links Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. It has a southern entrance within Refaim Park. Ein Laban is the closest. Nahal Ein Kerem is the northern entrance.

On Thursday, Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Zeev Elkin, Mayor Moshelion, Avi Baleshnikov, Gihon chairman and hundreds of cyclists were present at a celebration to inaugurate the tunnel's 2.1-kilometer-long length.

Jerusalem was once a tourist attraction because of its rich past. Nowadays, aside from its historical treasures the city also offers modern tourism." Elkin stated, "The Kerem Tunnel project will be the central tool for achieving our dream to change the concept transportation throughout Jerusalem." Elkin explained that the proposed tunnel connects to the Jerusalem Ring Path and will link with existing bike routes. The tunnel will also be paved in its different neighborhoods. The tunnel will be a great way to help cyclists and promote green transportation in the capital.

נווה פריצקי The Kerem Tunnel was originally excavated in the year 1990 to relocate the main sewers of Gihon Corporation towards the Sorek purification facility. This plant is located west of Sorek and is currently used as an infrastructure tunnel.
